So, you want to join the movement? Well, here are a few things to know.

The primary call of Jesus to his disciples then and now is simple – “follow me” (Mt 4:19). In simple terms, a follower of Jesus is an apprentice of his.

However, the apprenticeship of Jesus is not where Ghanaian churches spend most of their time and energy. Enter the SimplyChrist community.

We focus on being 2 things to members of SimplyChrist

• A continuously learning community.
• A supportive community in our attempts to follow Jesus, based on what we learn.

Based on this 2-pronged focus if you want to join SimplyChrist, this is what you should expect.

• You will be added to a collaborative workspace of existing SimplyChrist members. (We use Slack, here’s a quick intro to slack)
• You will be added to the “onboarding” Slack channel, where a SimplyChrist Leader will help you go through a selected set of online courses and some books (See our guiding principles for choosing these resources)

This welcome onboard process is very important, and this is the best place to get all your questions answered and we encourage you to be inquisitive, curious, and engaged. Without this process, you might not understand why SimplyChrist places such an emphasis on learning and unlearning together.

• Subsequently, you will be introduced to your sub-group of fellow disciples of Jesus, based on where you are in Ghana on Slack. In this Slack channel, you and your fellow disciples get to continue your learning and experience sharing activities, under the direction of a moderator.
• You and your fellow disciples get to decide when to meet both online and physically, sharing life’s experiences and lessons from podcasts/books/videos or audio courses and real-life challenges you each have been learning from or experiencing.

Remember, Christian discipleship is a life-long process of learning, applying, and reflecting which you do with others on the same journey with you, not just alone.

If a life of learning (and unlearning) is not what you want, then SimplyChrist is not for you. And that’s fine. That is what we have to offer, and we like being clear and open on what we are and are not before someone asks to join us. Note: SimplyChrist is not a church, and neither is it a replacement for church.

Following Jesus is not easy. But how do we know we are improving on that journey? Well, it’s simple actually. The more we live lives of love, the more visible our discipleship will be.

Remember what Jesus said?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so must you love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”. (Jn 13:34)
